Options of treatment for mesotelioma - the Fotodinamica Therapy
This treatment uses the light to kill the cancerous cells. Initially, the patient receives a fotosensibilizador that is concentrated in the cancerous cells, but not in the healthful cells. (A fotosensibilizador is a drug that causes that the cells are vulnerable in the light of certain length of sling). After sensitizing to the cells, cables are placed fiber optics within the body (usually by means of the surgery of open chest) to focus light of the frequency indicated on the tumor. This causes that the fotosensibilizador produces a toxic oxygen molecule that kills the cancerous cell.
Although this treatment is still in a very experimental stage for the treatment of mesotelioma, has shown very promising results for the treatment of other cancers.
