STEVEN KAZAN: Founding and greater partner; admitted to the Association of Lawyers of New York (1967) and California (1970); to the Courts of Appeals, Circuits Third, Fifth and Ninth; to Cortes of District of California and the United States, the Districts of the North and the East of California; to the Supreme Court of the United States; the University of Harvard (LL.B., 1996); the University of Brandeis (A.B., 1963).
I began my first case to name of a asbestos victim in 1974, and since then, I have represented thousand of workers harmed and to the members of its families in cases taken before you cut.
Also I have represented its interests by means of my services in committees of creditors for victims of asbestos diseases in the reorganizations of asbestos companies that they have looked for to elude its responsibilities under the bankruptcy laws, including Amatex, H.K. Porter, Sea turtle of Canada, and Celotex and I was general adviser for the Global Adjustment of Fireboard. Now I participate to the committee of creditors for victims of asbestos diseases in the reorganization by bankruptcy Chapter XI of the company Babcox and Wilcox, and also I serve like legal adviser as the committees as creditors for victims as diseases as asbestos in the reorganizations by bankruptcy Chapter XI as the Armstrong companies World-wide Industries (AIM), W.R. Grace, NARCOTICS DETECTIVE, Mogul Federal, Kaiser Aluminum, and Tecnologías Globales (TIG). I am member of the Directive Committee of the Plaintiffs for the Litigations Multidistrict de Asbesto MDL) for lawsuits filed in You cut federals through all the United States; and I am member of the Consultative Committee of Receivers for the Fiduciary funds of Indemnifications of Celotex.
I am Special Adviser for the Fiduciary funds of Manville and H.K. Porter in its efforts to as much acquire to the tobacco industry indemnifications in favor of the asbestos victims by the way of the legislation like by the litigation. I pleaded and I testified before the Congress in the name of the victims of the asbestos, to explain the injustice that they would have suffered to have accepted the agreement proposed in June of 1997 between the tobacco industry and the Public prosecutors of the State of forty states.
I also participate in the continuous legal education. Between 1985 and 1991, I was director of the annual seminaries for asbestos plaintiffs in Monterey, California. For more than twenty years, I have given lectures, I have been moderating, director of contributor program and in several seminaries and factories of Continued Legal Education on the asbestos, the tobacco, the cases of damage by toxic substances, and the cases of clasistas damages of the Association of Lawyers of California and the Lawyers of the Consumer of California. Also I have given lectures in medical seminaries, of insurances, and defense.
During the three years between 1998 - 2000, I was co-director of the National Conference on Asbestos Litigations of Mealy, and in November 1998, I spoke in the National Conference on Litigations of Tobacco of Mealy of the responsibility of the tobacco industry towards the victims of the asbestos disease. In May, 1999, I was member of the teaching staff of the Fourteenth Annual Conference of Andrews in New Orleans, where I gave a lecture on the demands of the fiduciary funds that look for indemnification of the big companies of the tobacco industry; and later the same month, participates like lecturer in the Fifteenth Conference on Legal Responsibility of its Products of the Tobacco, that was realized in the Faculty of Jurisprudence of the Northeastern University in Boston.
At the beginning year 2002, I was in Washington, DC for Conference on Asbestos Litigations of Mealy, participating in discussions of group on the future of the litigations of the asbestos. Early in the month of April, I was co-director of “Asbestos Litigations: The Following Generation " of the American Institute of Conferences, a conference of two days in San Francisco. The eleven of April, I presented/displayed the main conference on the subject: “Asbestos Litigations, Now and in the future.”
In June, I will be in Chicago to participate in the Conference of Asbestos Bankruptcy of Mealey; in this conference, I will be member of a group that will present/display the last acotecimientos of the committees of creditors. I will be in New York in July to speak in the “Forum of Wall s$street: the Asbestos” of Mealey.
Although I most of spend my time to the asbestos litigations, also I have ample experience in the fields of illegal medical practice and other demands by contact with toxic substances. I was named to the Directive Committee of the Plaintiffs in the National Litigations Latex Multi-districts, and also I serve in the Committee as Intercommunications between Federal Cortes and those as the State as California, and the Committee of Exhibition. I am the Co-adviser of Intercommunications for the Plaintiff for All the Cases of the State of Californian on the Aspects of Health of the Latex.
From 1975, I have been member of the Group of Litigations on the Asbestos. Between 1980 and 1995, I was member of the Council of Governors of the Lawyers of the Consumer of California (previously the Litigant Association of Abogador of California), and was Parliamentary in 1989, and one of the Vice-presidents in 1990. Between 1975 and 1983, I was member of the Council of Governors of the Association of Trial attorneys of Tree-lined avenue-Against Coast, and in 1980, I was president. Also I am member of the Associations of Lawyers of the United States, of the State of New York, the State of California, and the County of Tree-lined avenue, the Lawyers for Public Justice, of the Coordinating Committee of Lawyers of AFL-CIO, of the Association of Trial attorneys of the state of New York, and the Trial attorneys of America.
Before founding the company/signature on Oakland in l974, I was Attending to the General Adviser of the Commission on Inter-state Comercio in Washington, D.C. (1967-1969); Assistant to the Public prosecutor of the United States for the District of the North of California (1969-1971); and Associated in Werchick & Werchick, a specialized legal writing desk in demands by the bad medical practice in San Francisco (1971 - 1974).
